Hurley Village
The village of Hurley is located between the picturesque riverside towns of Henley-on-Thames and Maidenhead, and pre-dates the Norman Conquest. It was known to the Danes as Herlei and is mentioned in the Domesday book; indeed the oldest building dates back to c.1086. The remains of the Benedictine monastery may still be seen, and the church is still in use. Ye Olde Bell Hotel is thought to have housed visitors to the monastery.
Local Walks
Hurley provides some delightful rambles, with long riverside walks to Marlow or Henley, almost entirely along the banks of the Thames on the Thames Path. There are also walks up the side of the valley to Ashley Hill Forest which has good views of Berkshire and beyond.
