Le Relais de l’orient is situated in Charroux d'Allier, in Auvergne. The house has much character, which was built in 1767. It boasts a dovecote, a court and a small farmyard. Our vast garden (5000 m2) hosts an interesting orchard with a great diversity of fruit trees. It is situated at the eastside (l’ orient) of the village, close to the medieval centre of Charroux and the ‘belvédère’ with a magnificent view of the valley.

We have made our house into a warm refuge, where our hosts can re-vitalize and relax.

Children are welcome in our home, they especially like our garden with the sheep, hens, rabbit and 3 lovely cats.

We have 4 large rooms all with en suite bathroom.

The car lovers can park there treasure inside the courtyard or even in the barn, they find an interesting museum at 7 km and the calendar of  vintage car gatherings on the web site of Charroux

Activities in the area

Discover the many walking possibilities in the region. Within a range of 60km it offers you sinuous river gorges (Sioule and Bouble), La Chaine des Puys (volcanos, lakes and waterfalls), lovely villages and uncountable castles.

For those who like horse riding, we can contact ‘La Jumenterie’; a manège at  7 km from Charroux.

Art and craft is represented in many towns around at maximum 70 km from here: Clermont-Ferrand with many antique shops, Moulins, Vichy…

History is revived in the medieval castles all around: Chouvigny, Chateau Rocher, Billy, Montgilbert, Fontariol.

Antique, bric à brac ? However you name it, this is the place to be.

We recommend the famous antique fair in Charroux (every last Sunday of April) and many other ‘brocantes’ in the neighbourhood, every weekend from April on to September and later.

The youngsters (from the age of 8 to …) can be entertained with Vulcania (a theme park around vulcanos, at 58 km), Le pal (amusement park at 50 km), kayak on the Sioule, many small museums and  exhibitions around pre-historic subjects.

Add to all this our home crammed with books, a collection of shells, pictures of all kind, travel memories and the good humour of Suzy and Albert  and you will enjoy your stay here as a welcome break in the every day ritual.
