La Tourelle is situated in upper Colombotte. Long ago it was a fortified farmhouse dominating the village.  La Tourelle has been converted, with much respect to its original appearance, into a chambres et tables d’hôtes – the French version of bed-and-breakfast. It is an ideal starting point for walking- and cycling-tours.

Colombotte is situated in a small village of about fifty inhabitants situated in Haute Saône, Franche Comté, between the Vosges and Jura mountains in the north-east of France. Set in  the unspoiled country of hills, vast woods with deciduous trees, estates and farmlands, brooks and rivulets, together they form a surprisingly beautiful walking- and cycling region where quietness reigns and less than 590 km from Calais.

For an active holiday or just to relax and do nothing at all, to enjoy nature, the tranquility of the French countryside, and the good food and nice wines, La Tourelle is the place to be.

Accommodation

Rooms in La Grange

La Grange is the former hay-barn with stables. In 2003 it was transformed into an accommodation ready to welcome guests and groups of up to 20 persons. On what used to be the hay-loft, there are now six simple double bedrooms with two common bathrooms and toilets. The empty space a little bit higher, the so-called vide, is a place to relax, from there you have a grand view of the hill-side.

Rooms in La Tourelle

From the beginning of spring 2004 the farmhouse will be available for guests too. The rooms here will be more comfortable and they will all have their own bathroom. Two of them can even accommodate small families.
The common room downstairs has a fire-side, a large reading/dinner table and cosy corners with a more intimate atmosphere

 Camping

On the grounds of La Tourelle there is also room for six little tents for campers. Breakfast is being served, and campers are also welcome to join the evening meal at the farm.

 La Caracabane

La Caracabane is a large caravan (nine metres) close to La Tourelle on its own grounds, near the edge of the woods, with an eco-toilet and room enough for a small tent (for the children). It looks like a log-cabin so that it does not spoil the countryside. The view is splendid and its terrace is ideal for barbecuing.

It has a bed-room, a kitchen-sink, a dining-table and comfortable seats. There is an eco-toilet near the caravan, electricity and running water (not fit for drinking though).

You can prepare your own food, either in the kitchen or on the barbecue, but you can also join the meals at La Tourelle. La Tourelle is at about 200 metres; here you can also get drinking-water and take a shower. There is a possibility to hire sheets and blankets and even bikes.

 Groups

Groups which seek accomodation for their activities may find La Tourelle very convenient. Parties, work-shops, family week-ends, and many other activities are possible. There are facilities for work-shops such as for painting, ceramic art (e.g. raku-pottery). Catering is looked after by Tim, who is an experienced cook.

La Grange can accomodate groups of up to 20 people. There are six double bed-rooms, two common bath-rooms and toilets, and a dormitory for 6 to 8 people.
The dining-room (salle à manger) is 6x12 metres, and upstairs there are rooms of 6x4 and 3x4 metres which can also be used as studio's or class-rooms. There is a cosy drawing-room and a large terrace with barbecue.

Dogs

The region is particularly fit for tourists with dogs and Mirjam is an experienced lover of dogs, so especially before and after the summer season tourists with dogs are welcome. During that period one room is reserved for guests with dogs, booking in advance is necessary though.

Activities 

Golf:- Situated in a beautiful area in nearby Luxueil-les-Bains (within less than 10 km) is La belle Vue, a well equipped modern golf-course. A french professional gives introductory courses of several days, for which we can mediate if our guests are interested.

Cycling:-  The Comité départemental du cyclotourisme has mapped out various routes for cyclists with Vesoul as your starting point. With differences in altitude of up to 300 meters, these routes are not too difficult, but you'll need the right materials and outfit.

We have two comfortable 'hybrid' bikes for hire. There are also several circuits that are perfect for mountain bikers. If you want to explore, for instance, the 'Ballon de'Alsace', we can take you there and later you cycle back to the farm.

We provide you with a packed lunch and detailed maps.

Hiking:-  In cooperation with the French tourist office we have organized routes that will lead you along forest-tracks and meandering country roads. Busy roads are avoided as much as possible.

The varied flora and fauna will be a surprise to you. There are lots of plants to see and birds to be spotted. In the small villages with their typical towers covered with colourful glazed tiles you are bound to find old fontaines, some of them are of architectural interest.

Four-leaves - La Tourelle lies in the centre of a four-leaves of walking-routes, so you can map out your own daily or half-day tours. The paths are well passable and not difficult. A pair of stout walking shoes is recommended, though.

A number of well-described tours and walking-maps are available for our guests, who set out with a packet for lunch provided by us, either from the farm or from an other starting-point to which our taxi-service can take you.

Routes

There are some walking-routes from La Tourelle varying from an hour to a whole day, mostly along paths through the woods and between the fields leading to small villages, bigger roads for through-traffic are avoided as much as possible, so mostly the dogs can run free.

Wood-cutting

During the winter-months we need a lot of wood to heat the buildings, most of it comes from the nearby woods. This means that there is a lot of work to be done. For those who like to combine working in the open air and enjoying nature we organise special (long) week-ends for groups of four people, or less.
