Come and enjoy the best of Normandy less than 2 hours from Calais or 40 minutes from Dieppe.

The farm is situated in the small village of La Bellière surrounded by marvellous countryside. Just 5km away is the resort town of Forges-Les-Eaux which boasts an excellent variety of cafes and restaurants. La Bellière is just 1.5kms off the main Dieppe-Paris route. This former dairy farm no longer has cows, but the old milking parlour has been converted into loose boxes for horses, sheep graze on the pasture and chickens free-range in the yard.

The local area, called the Pays de Bray, is known for its dairy and apple produce. These include the famous Neufchatel heart-shaped cheese, cider and calvados.

Accommodation

The accommodation is completely independent of the main farmhouse, and is a lovingly-converted stable with plenty of exposed beams, a split level oak floor and a large bathroom with both a bath and shower. Breakfast is served in the rooms and guests have as much privacy as they could want. Coffee and tea-making facilities are available and there is an extra single bed in an alcove, particularly suitable for children.

Food

Adjoining the stables, the tack room has a small bar where guests can enjoy a tipple in an ambience of horses munching and the smell of oiled leather.

Dinner, in the farmhouse with your hosts or in the intimacy of your own room, consists of many home-grown delights: lamb, rabbit, guinea fowl, wood pigeon, seasonal vegetables and a wealth of fresh herbs. Fish, shellfish and cheeses are bought daily from the local markets.

The cuisine of Normandy is the pride of its inhabitants and is discussed as passionately as it is eaten, but all manner of international dishes are available by mere request. 

Activities

There is a petanque piste for guests to use and also a large rustic pond with swimming for the very brave. Fishing is available. There is excellent; bird-watching, walking and cycling (mountain bikes available for hire).  The ‘chemin vert’ a disused railway line that has been converted into a walking, cycling and riding track passes close to the farm and goes all the way to Dieppe.

Tennis and an indoor/outdoor pool are all possible in Forges-Les-Eaux, and the well-known golf course of St. Saens is just 20kms away.

There are colourful, authentic farmer’s markets in the surrounding towns on every day of the week. There are also fetes and festivals of all kinds (such as the fete du cheval in late July in the forest next to Forges-Les-Eaux) throughout the year. Forges-Les-Eaux has a very smart Casino, open 24 hours a day and well-frequented by Parisians. The adjacent Club Med is a health spa, daily membership is available for the gym, pool, sauna etc., although the seaweed treatment is extra!

For children there are several amusement parks within 35 minutes drive, open Easter to September.

If you are looking for something a bit busier:

Dieppe: a busy fishing port and beach resort. Excellent shopping, restaurants and museums.

Rouen: attractive cobbled streets, a beautiful cathedral and the site of Joan of Arc's death. Plenty of shopping and eating opportunities.

Paris: 2 hours by car, or take the train.

Giverny: the world famous Monet gardens and house, just over an hour by car.

Deauville/Quend: if it's beaches you want.

Travel

Calais (2 hours) and Dieppe (40 minutes)
From Forges-Les-Eaux take the D915 south to Paris and Gournay-en-Bray. After 4kms La Bellière is signposted to the left. The village is about 1km, just after one crosses railway track. We are exactly 800 metres after the church, signposted to the left and at the end of  the track.

Airport Charles de Gaulle (1 ¾ hours) and Paris (2 hours)
From Gournay-en-Bray take the D915 north to Forges-Les-Eaux. 4kms before Forges, La Bellière is signposted to the right.
