La Cochère is a picturesque farmhouse in a peaceful village, set in beautiful tranquil gardens.

We are situated in the heart of the Charentais countryside with all facilities close by.

Restored to a high standard with quality country house furnishings in a style that puts you instantly at ease you will be warmly welcomed by John and Kathy Anderson.

With its gentle climate and rolling countryside the Charente is the perfect place to unwind. Enjoy walking, fishing or painting on the banks of a river, or if you're feeling energetic canoeing, mountain biking and horse riding are all available locally.

Steeped in history and rich in architecture, you can explore the famous chatêaux and Romanesque churches or visit the gourmet markets and local restaurants around Ruffec to soak up the atmosphere of this charming, unspoilt region.

Rooms

All our rooms are comfortably furnished with high quality bed linen, sumptuous thick white towels with tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryers.

Swimming Pool:-   The swimming pool is fenced and has sun loungers and parasols.

Beautiful countryside with meandering rivers, ancient architecture, picturesque villages, authentic produce, active sports, relaxing leisure pursuits and festivals to enjoy all year.

Angoulême:- Old fortified city built on rock overlooking the river Charente where you can take a cruise. Home of the international comic strip festival, lively daily market and wealth of shops and museums

Cognac:- Flourishing home of Hennessy, Martell and Otard with ancient streets and mansions built by Cognac merchants. Now host to film, music, comedy and literature festivals.

La Rochelle:- The historic sea port where you can hire a yellow bicycle to explore the architectural heritage, sample speciality foods and wines, visit museums and enjoy the heritage of this thriving city on the Atlantic ocean.

Rufféc:-  Visit the market on Wednesday and Saturday with sea food fresh from the Atlantic and a range of delicious local foods including farmhouse foie gras and cheese tart.
Try the famous Pineau des Charentes, meet the locals and sample life the French way.

How to get here:-  Situated between the cities of Angouleme and Poitiers, easily accessible by fast train, road or by air from the nearby airports of Poitiers, La Rochelle, Bordeaux and Limoges.

Travelling south from Paris on the autoroute A10 to Bordeaux, exiting at Poitiers on the route national N10. Salles de Villefagnan is signposted 5 miles south of Ruffec off the D31.

Delicious 4 Course candle-lit evening meal with aperitif and wine is 22 euros per person by prior reservation.

Reservation recommended.   £20 or €30 deposit. Credit cards not accepted.
