Les Boisards is situated in the beautiful verdant valley of the Mayenne river. This 50 acre all grass sheep farm, overlooks stunning countryside with patchwork pattern hedges fields and woods, threaded by streams and peaceful shaded lanes. Les Boisards, Pays de la Loire

Accommodation

The 18th century farmhouse is built of thick stone walls and traditional curving slate roof, supported by massive oak beams. The farmhouse faces onto a courtyard framed by the original stone farm buildings, which offer secure car-parking, surrounded by shady tree-studded lawns running down to the wildlife pond. 

Accommodation comprises of:-  three light and airy guest bedrooms. The ground floor room has a ensuite  double bedroom making this suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. The other two rooms on the first floor both have three single beds and ensuite shower room.

Breakfast:- A good breakfast complete with home-made preserves can be taken in the family dining room.

Evening Meal:- is optional with produce from the farm. (Reservation required.)

Garden:- Guests are welcome to stroll around the gardens. We will happily show you around the farm and meet our flock of 2000 Rouge de L'Ouest ewes and their lambs.The Boisards wildlife pond

Around the area

There is an excellent choice of restaurants in the locality, ranging from a brasserie to gastronomic.

Popular places to visit are the Refuge de L'Arche at Château-Gontier, the Mine Bleu and Domaine de la Petite Couère (see the unique Poitou Donkeys) and the Musée Jacques Tatin at Cossé le Vivien.

Many interesting châteaux's within a hour's drive, include the Château du Plessis-Bourré near Le Lion d'Angers and Serrant at St. Georges sur Loire.

There are many farms where you can taste and buy produce such as snails, wild boar, venison as also sampling the local cider. The vineyards of the Loire are within easy access.

Mayenne is also famous for its stud farms and you can visit the National Stud at Le Lion d'Angers.

Activities in the area

Walking, Water Sports, Tennis, Golf, Boating, Horse riding, Cycling, Swimming, Fishing, Canoeing, and Wine tasting. 

There is a footpath starting at the farm access road through the countryside to the tow-path at Ménil, which offers cycling and walking alongside the river as far as the town of Mayenne.

The Mayenne is renowned for its coarse fishing. Day licences are  available. You can either hire a boat or go on an organised trip.

How to get here

Distances from the ferry ports vary:-  St Malo (2 hours), Caen (3 1/2 hours) and Cherbourg (4 hours), Calais 5½ hrs making this an ideal overnight stop on your way to the South of France and Spain. It is easily accessible from the N162 (Laval - Angers) 7 km south of the charming historic market town of Château-Gontier and 3 km from the village of Ménil.

This price is based on 1 person per room.  For each additional person (up to a maximum of 3 per room, add €10).
