About Shropshire

Look out for guided walking and ghost tours through the shuts and passages, the unique maze of narrow alleys which criss-cross the town centre, and the many fine ecclesiastical buildings, castles and ruined abbeys as reminders of our medieval spiritual past.

Just outside town is Attingham Park, built in 1785 for the 1st Lord Berwick and now in the care of the National Trust. The property features a picture gallery by John Nash and collections of silver, Italian furniture and Grand Tour Paintings. There is a Deer Park with walks alongside the river Tern. Home Farm, Attingham, a short walk from the hall, is a working farm with hands-on activities for children.

Nearby, Wroxeter Roman City, the fourth largest in Roman Britain, has provided a significant improvement to our awareness of daily life within a Roman garrison settlement.

Even amongst the shuts and alleys of medieval Shrewsbury, finding Cromwells is not all that difficult.
