We also have The Cottage - our ETC 3 Star self catering apartment, and The Barn - ETC inspected Camping Barn for more basic accommodation for up to 8, with drying and cycle storage facilities.

Holmhead Guest House our former farmhouse stands uniquely on the foundations of Hadrians wall near the "Centre of Britain" at the southwest corner of the Northumberland National Park. It is half way between Edinburgh and York, and within an easy drive of the lake district, the heritage coast and the Scottish borders.

The Guest House

Holmhead has 4 cosy ensuite bedrooms, shower/toilet for each one. The bedrooms have central heating, armchair, radio, hairdryer, plenty of storage space and lovely countryside views. Cot and extra bed available. Hospitality tray on request.

We offer delicious evening meals, a good wine list, cocktail bar.

No smoking and no pets.

Lounge

The light airy lounge is next to the bedroom, so it is easy to pop in and make your own tea and coffee (inc. decaffeinated), hot chocolate or hot beef drink from the trolley free of charge.

At one end of the lounge the sofas are grouped near the colour television and at the other around a coffee table, near a small bar, with miniatures of liqueur, sherry, spirits etc., and cold wine or beer. There are plenty of board games, extensive local history library, jigsaws and children's toys. Hi Fi Stereo, living flame fire and foot massager are provided for your comfort.

Information

We have self catering accommodation and Camping Barn accommodation for walkers, cyclists and vacations, holidays and touring, and those who don't smoke, specialising in Hadrians Wall, information and archaeology. Short breaks and themed breaks, ghost trails and history trails.

The Cottage (for non-smokers)

A barn conversion integral part of the farm, but with it's own back and front door. The lounge-diner with colour television and hi-fi has south-facing French doors opening onto the patio and car park.

The kitchen area has ceramic hob and microwave/grill/oven, dishwasher, fridge freezer and automatic washing machine. Tumble dryer available. The bathroom is large and equipped with bars, handrails and transfer platform suitable for the disabled

There are 2 bedrooms - 1 double and 1 twin.

Prices on application - now booking for Winter 2005 and 2006
£206 -£420 per week.

The Barn (for non-smokers)

The Barn - consists of two areas equipped with one hot shower and toilet, a compact kitchen (equipped with a camping gas stove, hot and cold water and essential cooking utensils) with dining and seating areas. The open plan interiors have sleeping bench, bunk beds and a mezzanine floor.

There is an outside shower/ toilet, drying room and plenty of space for cycle storage. There is also space outside for two backpacker tents.

Gas cylinders are available for heating if required. The Barn has lighting, but no electric sockets.

Sightseeing / touring information from your host a former tour guide and expert on Hadrians Wall. 

The Barn is available at £12 per person per night maximum occupancy 8 .There is a family or group rate to hire the bunk area with facilities exclusively per night £80 or the whole barn £90per night

About the area

Hadrians Wall is a World Heritage Site. It crosses from coast to coast of Northern England for 73 Miles, and is a breathtaking sight. Our bed and breakfast accommodation near Hadrians wall also contains stones obtained from the wall.

You can visit long stretches of remaining wall; archaeological excavations of the wall and of 8 of the remaining forts along the route, there are also 11 museums. Most are open all year.

Formerly a tour guide, Pauline has studied archaeology and local history, specialising on Hadrians Wall, gaining a Diploma at Durham University.
