The Lunga Estate is a country coastal estate which has been in the MacDougall family for over 300 years. You can either rent a self catering flat in the house or in one of our converted stone built and slated traditional estate cottages with open fires, Or you can come as a guest and stay in the mansion for B&B in lovely old traditional rooms, full of antique furniture.

Lunga is a fine old Scottish country house (originally a 16th century Tower House), castellated, turreted, set on green lawns amidst tangled woodland.

 It looks out upon the sea, the waters of the Firth of Lorne and the Sound of Jura are just five hundred metres away.

In Lunga House

These are available for Bed and breakfast guests, or as extra rooms with a self catering flat.
Both rooms are en-suite and include a remote control television, and a tea tray with kettle.

Argyll Room

This room is available as a Double or twin with private bathroom. The room is set on the first floor and overlooks the beautiful gardens.

Lochiel Room

Available as a double/twin with private shower room.  Adjoining Argyll room, this lovely bedroom is also on the first floor landing and overlooks the gardens

Adjacent to  Lunga House:- 2 Studio Rooms

 They are suitable for bed and breakfast or people wishing to have a foothold in one place and travel about. The rooms have a small inbuilt kitchenette.

Lovat Room

Large serviced room with private bathroom and small kitchenette. This also has a perfect tiny attic room suitable for children

Crawford Room 

Large serviced room with private bathroom and small kitchenette.

The Morning Room 

Breakfast and often dinner is served in this room.  The room is wood panelled and was originally built as a courtyard and then enclosed to make a billiard room.

Dinner can be booked for all guests whether Self Catering or Bed and breakfast. We serve a variety of local specialities and are specialists at game and local beef and seafood's. Eat with us every night or just a couple of nights. Special diets are catered for if we are given notice.

You can also book accommodation at Lunga or space on the estate for that special birthday, wedding etc ( we are a licenced wedding venue

Public Rooms

The Inner Hall

A cosy seating area, with local guide books and leaflets for you to plan your exploration of the local area. During the colder winter months we usually try and keep a fire lit in the f fireplace.

The Great Drawing Room

Full of old games such as shoove h'penny and puff ball as well as ping pong, and a small snooker table and a small Grand Piano.

Attractions of the Area

Closer to hand, heading out along the peninsula from Ardfern, there is the chapel at Kilmharee, with its graves of chieftains and crusading knights ; beyond this, on the way to Craignish Point, is Craignish castle where it is possible to glimpse the private garden, designed by Osgood Mackenzie.

For the more active, there are riding stables just 200m north of the house.  The stables have an all weather mange and a park which is frequently used for jumping or dressage, as well as a cross-country course. Away from dry land, the Craignish boat club in the local village of Ardfern offers children the chance to learn sailing or canoeing. Yacht chartering is available from the two busy local marinas at Ardfern and Craobh Haven as well as boat trips to the nearby islands.

For golfers, both Oban and Lochgilphead have courses. An hour away at Machrihanish is a championship course. Those after a truly extreme golfing experience can even get a morning boat to the island of Colonsay, 

Fishing is available in the Lunga estate's six hill lochs; in the sea, while on boat trips from Ardfern or Craobh or, with a permit, in the nearby Loch Awe. 

For those winding down from such exertions, there are a variety of places to eat and drink out. Starting within the bounds of the estate itself, Ardfern and Craobh each have their own pubs: respectively, the bustling Galley of Lorne and the justly famous Lord of the Isles, both of which also serve food. In addition to these, Craobh has a waterside cafe offering breakfast, lunch and snacks.

Directions to Lunga

Lunga is just south of Craobh Haven Village. 26 miles south of Oban and 16 miles north of Lochgilphead overlooking the islands of the Inner Hebrides

Directions through Glasgow and from the south:- Follow signs for M8 or Erskine Bridge and Glasgow Airport. Pass the airport and cross the Erskine Bridge (Toll bridge) and follow signs for A82 'Loch Lomond', 'Arrochar', at Tarbet take A83 to 'Inveraray' and 'Lochgilphead'.

At Lochgilphead take the A816 North towards Oban

Turn left at the Craobh Haven Village signs 2 Miles north of the Ardfern turn off.
Before turning into the village of Craobh Haven take a left turn towards the riding stables and Lunga is 200 yards further on.

Tariff

Prices are inclusive of VAT @ 17.5%.  .  B&B prices are per person /night for a fully serviced room with private bath, tea or coffee in the room and a full Scottish breakfast.

SELF CATERING ACCOMMODATION is available -  All the self catering flats and cottages are described under self catering. However they can be rented as Bed and breakfast for a group or the whole house can be rented for Conferences, Weddings, or other occasions
