Manor
Court Farm in Kent is ideally situated for visiting a wealth of historic houses
and gardens, the coast, Oast houses, hop gardens and the lovely countryside in
South East of England. We are on the border of Kent and Sussex- both
are very pretty counties. Kent is known as 'the garden of England'.
The farm is located in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the main A264 road, 5 miles west of Tunbridge Wells and 1/2 mile east of Ashurst village. Gatwick airport is 40 minutes away, and there are regular train services from Ashurst, and nearby towns of Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge. The train journey to London takes about 45 minutes. The Channel Tunnel is approximately an hour away by car. The farm is ideally located for those wanting a relaxing holiday, a short break or a base for exploring the South-East of England.
Manor Court Farm Bed & Breakfast is offered in a spacious, listed Georgian farmhouse with full central-heating. We can cater for up to six adults and children. . We aim to create a warm and friendly atmosphere so guests can relax and enjoy the farm and the surrounding lovely countryside of Kent and Sussex. There are various animals around the farmstead such as cats, dogs, guinea fowl, geese, chickens, ducks, horses and foals.
The Farm
Manor Court Farm is a working arable and sheep farm of 350 acres, with cornfields, pastures and woodlands stretching to the river Medway. We have a flock of around 500 sheep. Guests are invited to meet the animals and explore the farm which has extensive public footpaths including the Weald Way and the Sussex Border Path. We welcome walkers and cyclists.
Accommation
One
double and two twin rooms are available throughout the year and are tastefully
and comfortably furnished to a high standard. Each room has hot and cold
water, tea making facilities and wonderful views of the gardens and surrounding
countryside. Our spacious bedrooms are complemented by two large
bathroom/shower rooms, exclusively for guests use.
LOUNGE
A television lounge/sitting room with an open fire is available for the comfort of our guests, whilst in better weather there are lovely places to sit outside and enjoy a cup of tea and the gardens.
DINING ROOM
The dining room is cosy, attractive with a friendly atsmosphere.
Breakfasts are cooked to order on the Aga, using fresh farm eggs and local produce whenever possible. Guests are offered a traditional English cooked breakfast with toast and locally produced jams and marmalade, or any combination of available items. Children, vegetarians and special diets can be catered for. The menu can vary according to your wishes, but we can always offer the following:
Fresh fruit, a choice of breakfast cereals, orange juice.
'Famous' local Speldhurst sausage, dry-cured bacon, mushrooms cooked in butter with ground black pepper, oven baked tomato, eggs. (fried/boiled/scrambled/poached)

Walking and Cycling
Manor Court Farm has joined the South East England Tourist Board Walkers and Cyclists charter which means that we provide additional facilities and assistance for those guests who arrive on foot or by bicycle. These range from drying facilities to a lift to the pub in the evening. The farm is set in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and there is a wealth of wildlife, footpaths (including the Weald Way and the Sussex Border Path) and outdoor activities on the doorstep. The farm boasts ancient, semi-natural woodlands, ponds, historic landscape features and old ironstone quarries. A farm Nature Trail has been produced and is available to those wishing to explore the farm and learn a little of the natural history; wildlife on the farm includes kestrel, skylark, foxes, fallow and roe deer, badgers and a wide range of plant species (e.g. wild garlic, bluebells, primroses and Himalayan balsam).
Places to visit in the area
Within easy reach are Penshurst Place and gardens, Hever Castle, Bedgebury pinetum, Brogdale fruit garden, Chartwell (the home of Winston Churchill), Great Dixter house and gardens, Leeds Castle, Chiddingstone Castle, Ightham Mote, Bodiam Castle, Knole (where Vita Sackville-West was born), Sissinghurst Castle (renowned for its beautiful gardens created by the same Vita, where she lived later in her life), Standen (the home of William Morris). Many other private local homes and gardens are open on certain days each year - we can give you advice and help you plan your outings.
A number of well-known towns are also within easy reach, including the once fashionable spa town of Tunbridge Wells (just 10 minutes away), with its excellent new shopping precinct, the cathedral city of Canterbury, the maritime center with its Historic Dockyard at Chatham, the seaside towns of Brighton (famous for its 'Royal Pavilion' and 'The Lanes', where there are countless antique shops), Hastings and Eastbourne. The charming ancient small town of Rye, with its thriving artists community, is well worth an outing.
