Alun and Kath are pleased to welcome you to the Wassells House Bed & Breakfast.

Conveniently located just minutes from the M5 motorway in rural Somerset, its an ideal location for a short break to the West Country or a stop over destination for holidaymakers travelling to the South West of England.

Whether you are a business traveller looking for a small overnight establishment, a romantic at heart looking for the four poster bed dream in beautiful surroundings, or the family looking for an activity packed holiday, Wassells House is the friendly Bed & Breakfast for you.

We converted the house in into a B&B in 1998. We spent two years remodelling and modernizing the house without compromising any of the original features. The house has been extended to twice it's original size and now sits on it own 3/4 acre garden.

Wassells House is a comfortable, friendly, family home in the village of Cheddar, with its splendid surroundings. Sunny Cheddar, with its famous Gorge and attractions, is nestled in the foothills of the magnificent Mendips. This quiet village offers a variety of places to eat and drink, and are conveniently all within easy walking distance.

The garden backs on to the old railway line where local grown strawberries were put on the 'Strawberry Special' Train and taken to Bristol market. We have enjoyed sharing our home and will continued to improve the facilities and surroundings, as this years addition of the Koi Carp pond has shown.

About the area

The area offers many attractions including great walking, cycling, fishing, golf, and the towns and cities of the South West are within easy driving distance.

There are two ways of seeing the Gorge - giving totally different perspectives. The first is on the open top Gorge Tour Bus, looking up at the cliffs, with a guide pointing out features of interest. The bus runs every day between April and September. The second involves climbing 274 steps of the Jacob's Ladder to reach the Lookout Tower for views into the Gorge and across Somerset.

History of Wassells House

Wassells House was originally built in the 1930's as a working farmhouse. The working farm was located on the land near the house. The name Wassells House was carried on from the previous owner.

The name originated from the Somerset saying 'lets go a wasselling'. This is an old Somerset tradition where cider farmers used to fire their guns through the bows of the apple trees to frighten off the evil spirits in order to produce a successful harvest.

All inclusive bed and breakfast price is just £24.00 per person per night.
