Places to visit

Boscombe:-   Lying just to the East of Bournemouth (and now very much part of it) is Boscombe with its fine Clifftop Gardens and a Pier of its very own. The front is far less commercialised than that of Central Bournemouth and the sand on the beach is just as clean and as fine. Running the length of the Promenade is a little train powered by natural gas which runs right up to Alum Chine - very much a "hit" with the younger children.

Abbotsbury:-  is a quiet place of honey-coloured stone cottages, many thatched with reeds from the nearby Fleet Lagoon. Only scant remains of the mediaeval abbey remain with some mediaeval masonry in the walls of the village houses; but the chapel and tithe barn with its great, buttressed gable are impressive reminders of past glories. Abbotsbury is noted for its fine subtropical gardens and ancient swannery.

Brownsea Island:-  is one of the few places where Red Squirrels still thrive protected in a tranquil and largely wild environment which offers many attractions to visitors. A public hide overlooks the lagoon, which provides views of the thousands of migrating ducks, geese and gulls that feed here in Spring and Autumn. On the south side of the island a commemorative stone records the holding of the first experimental boys’ camp here in 1907 under the instruction of Robert Baden-Powell, which led to the founding of the Scout movement.

These are just a few of many places around the area
