At Payne’s Down Cottage Geoff and Brenda Bugler offer you a very warm welcome to their alpaca farm with bed & breakfast accommodation.
Superbly situated on the borders of Dorset, Devon and Somerset, the recently
built Payne’s Down Cottage B&B has wonderful views to the north over the Synderford
Valley and to the east towards Pilsdon Pen.
It is just a short walk or drive up to Pilsdon Pen (the highest hill in Dorset)
and you will find fantastic views over the beautiful Marshwood Vale to the
Jurassic coast from Portland Bill to South Devon.
Geoff and Brenda have kept alpacas since 1998 and have built up a fine herd which currently numbers 70+. You are welcome to view these charming, gentle animals and, if you wish, experience the alpacas first hand by assisting with their daily care routine.

All our rooms are ensuite with TV and have tea/coffee making facilities.

There are many facilities locally. Lots of local good walks of varying distances (three short walks right outside the door).

Local sea fishing.
How to get here
From Crewkerne travel approx 6 miles on the Lyme Regis road to Birdsmoorgate. Turn right at the crossroads immediately on entering Birdsmoorgate, towards Thorncombe and Chard. We are the first property on the right (approx. 200 yards) after this crossroads.
OR
(At Broadwindsor take the Lyme Regis road for approx 3 miles whereupon you will come to a cross roads at Birdsmoorgate continue straight across towards Thorncombe and Chard for approx. 200 yards, where you will find us - the first property on the right.
About us
We have been breeding Alpacas since 1998 in the beautiful countryside of the Marshwood Vale in West Dorset. As part of our alpaca breeding programme we strive for density, fineness, soft handle and certainty of colour in our crias (baby alpacas). Our alpaca females have been bred to some of the best male studs in the country and our crias continue to improve every year.
