Pauline and Michael welcome guests to come and share the wonderful countryside at Plas Bwlch. The name translates to Mansion of the Valley, and is a cosy Georgian style farmhouse, situated approx 1000 feet above sea level. Our smallholding extends to 15 acres of farmland with breathtaking views up and down the Upper Wye Valley
On our farm we run a small flock of Pedigree Dutch Zwartbles sheep,
which are quite rare in the U.K. together with a flock of Beulah speckled and
Devils’ Bridge speckled sheep. We also keep various chickens, so guests can be
assured of fresh farm eggs with their hearty breakfast in the morning. Lambing usually takes
place around the end of March or beginning of April and guests are most welcome
to come and see the baby lambs, especially the Zwartbles lambs, who look like
small calves when they are young.
Accommodation
The B&B accommodation is on the lower ground floor, which is accessed via an internal staircase. The guests accommodation is centrally heated, with thermostatic radiator valves in each room.
Rooms:- We offer one double room and one twin room both of which have en-suite bathrooms.
Both bedrooms have beverage facilities, colour television with remote, a hairdryer, alarm clock radio and other little home comforts.
There is also a separate lounge / dining room for guests which features an
original bread oven. This room also has its own colour television and much
literature on the surrounding areas and activities in the area.
Parking
Our large swept drive has ample off road parking for guests and for the enthusiasts out there we also offer secure and locked parking for bikes, trailers and rally cars.
Around the area
For guests who wish to go
exploring we have various maps and literature covering the Wye Valley and
surrounding countryside. The area is renowned for its walking and cycling
routes, with Lon Las Cymru (The Welsh National Cycle Route) passing through
Llangurig on its way to Rhayader, whilst The Severn Way extends some 210 miles
and is the longest riverside walk in Britain. If required we are more than happy
to provide guests with packed lunches.
Places to visit
For visitors touring the area by car there are various attractions to be explored. The Minerva Arts Centre in Llanidloes has numerous exhibitions throughout the year, including the stunning summer display of quilts. Other places to visit whilst on holiday are Devils’ Bridge, Powis Castle and Gardens, The Centre For Alternative Technology, Silver Lead Mine at Llywernog or the Welsh Crystal Factory in Rhayader, to name but a few.
Bird Watchers
For the bird watchers Plas Bwlch offers spectacular views of the beautiful Red Kite, which has been re-introduced throughout Mid Wales, soaring up on the thermals for hours on end. The Kite was at the point of extinction but now, thankfully, it is thriving yet again. For an even closer view, guests can visit the local Red Kite feeding stations. These are based at Gigrin Farm, Rhayader and Nant Y Arian, Ponterwyd. We are also visited by sparrowhawks, woodpeckers, nuthatches, siskins to name but a few. Very recently we have had a pair of Osprey come into the area, as they follow the River Wye up through the valley.
Activities
For those enjoying other sports there is golf at nearby St.Idloes Golf Club, Llanidloes. Boat and Fishing permits are available in Llanidloes for guests who wish to undertake a spot of fly fishing at the Llyn Clywedog Reservoir. Clay Pigeon shooting can be enjoyed at Trefeglwys, Llanidloes where the World Championships are held annually.
