In the town of Stone, you will find the Star Inn - which is well worth a visit.
Between Stone and Stoke-on-Trent, there is the Wedgewood Factory - founded by Josiah Wedgewood in 1759. There is a museum, visitor centre and factory tours.
Stoke-on-Trent contains a number of potteries and museums along with a Tourist Information Centre.
North of Stoke, you can branch off onto the Macclesfield Canal or continue on
the Trent and Mersey Canal to find the 2926 yard long Harecastle Tunnel.
If however, you choose to go southwards, at Fradley Junction you can turn on to the lock-free Coventry Canal towards Birmingham and Coventry or stay on the Trent and Mersey Canal and visit the Bass Museum at Burton-on-Trent and discover the history of beer brewing.
Whichever way you choose to go and explore, you are guaranteed a rich mix of countryside, towns, canal side pubs and restaurants and places of interest. To make the most of your holiday, we recommend a guide book such as "Nicholson's Guide to the Waterways" - whilst you will find one on "Privateer" - you may wish to do some forward planning
