Domaine Des Alberes
Languedoc-Rousillon,
Domaine des Alberes is situated in Languedoc-Rousillon, a hot dry area of south west France where the sun shines approximately 300 days a year. It is 10km from the coast where there are long sandy beaches and stunning views of the snow-capped Pyrenees mountains. There are historic sites and towns nearby and it is approximately an hour and a half from some French ski resorts.
Our House
This large villa is situated on the lower slopes of the Alberes mountains, 300m above sea level, one mile from the ancient village of Laroque des Alberes where there are two boulangeries, a butcher, a small supermarket (selling fresh milk!), a hairdresser, a post office and a chemist.
There are also four restaurants, two bars and two newsagents, one being a tabac.
Villa
On the upper floor:- there is a fully equipped kitchen with a sink, gas hob, extractor fan, large refrigerator with freezer, a dishwasher and an electric oven. There is also a large sitting/dining room on this level with a ceiling mounted fan, and a television with a DVD player, but you are asked to respect the other residents of the Domaine by not playing any music too loudly.
There are two bedrooms:- on this floor, one with twin beds and one with a double bed. There is also toilet and shower room on this floor. Outside there is a terrace with a stone built barbecue. The balcony has several chairs where you can admire the view over breakfast. There is also a cot available.

On the lower floor:- there are two bedrooms which each lead into a bathroom with a toilet and shower. One bedroom on this floor has twin beds and the other has a double bed. Next to the double bedroom there is a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer. Outside there is another terrace with garden furniture.
The villa benefits from gas central heating which makes it suitable for winter lettings, being close to ski slopes.
You are asked to provide duvet covers, sheets, pillowcases, towels and tea towels.

First floor Balcony
There are stunning views, from the first floor balcony, over the plain of Roussillon, and from the roof terrace it is possible to see the Mediterranean.
Swimming pool and activities

The property benefits from the use of a communal swimming pool from June to September and a tennis court which is open all year. There is also a table tennis room next to the swimming pool. The pool and tennis court are a 3 minute walk from the villa and they are only used by residents and visitors to the Domaine.
Around the area and places to visit
It is 20kms from Perpignan and 20 minutes from Spain, where most people go to buy cheaper petrol, cigarettes and spirits. It is approximately 1 hour from Girona where there is another airport with regular cheap flights from many UK airports. Barcelona is about a 2.5 hour drive away.
The Alberes mountains offer plenty of opportunities for walking, or you might like to hire bicycles next to the large supermarket, Champion, which is on the main road from Laroque to Argeles sur Mer. Along the coast there are several resorts with promenades and long sandy beaches, although you may prefer to visit the delightful fishing village of Collioure. South of Collioure you come to Banyuls sur Mer where you can take the coast road into Spain for lunch. The area is surrounded by vineyards and there are many opportunities for wine tasting. Just below the Domaine there is a farm shop which specialises in almonds, chocolate and honey but it also sells many regional products.
If you enjoy playing golf there are courses at St.Cyprien near the coast, and two excellent courses approximately less than an hour's drive away near Figueres in Spain. They are Torremirona and Peralada. All three courses have recently hosted the qualifying rounds for the European PGA. Alternatively there is the hilly, challenging course at the Falgos resort in the Pyrenees mountains. The Dali museum in Figueres is a must.
You may prefer to visit some of the mediaeval villages, such as the walled village of Villefranche Conflent. From here you can take the Little Yellow Train into the Pyrenees mountains.
For children there are the beaches, holiday clubs, water
sports, zoos and Aquasplash at Canet Plage.
There is a small market in Laroque on Wednesday mornings but a visit to the market at Ceret on Saturday mornings is recommended.
