Places to visit

Deauville and Trouville are famous with the French themselves. Parisians flock here in August and the elegant streets are alive with well-attired visitors. The chateau is perfectly positioned between the two smart resort towns and the long sandy beaches, and yet, being set in quiet pastoral surroundings it's perfectly situated as a base to explore this wonderfully rich region.

The Casino at Deauville is pretty ritzy (though a bit obsessed with slot machines, which doubtless the real gamblers don't even notice) and of course Deauville is hugely important to sailing people with its unparalleled marina and sea access. It was at the annual American Film Festival at Deauville that Catherine Zeta Jones met Michael Douglas.

Trouville is a lively town set against a hillside, with scores of restaurants and its own fish market where you can go and buy your evening meal. It's fresh, because the fishing boats come in here. Beautiful Trouville is right next to Deauville, and it has fascinating winding town streets, and beachside children's entertainment including ponies, trampolines and bouncy castles.

At Bénerville you can stand on the vast sandy beach - which is seldom people-packed - to watch a sunset. If you're lucky you'll see a string of top-class racehorses being exercised. There are beach resorts right along the coast as far as Caen. There are good indoor/open air swimming pools on the beaches of Deauville and Trouville.

Activities in the area

This is golfing country. There are renowned golf courses in the area. One of the best courses in the region is Hotel du Golf Barrière, ) less than a mile from our house. This is also racehorse country (the racing and the yearling sales are world-famous), and polo country. Deauville is a boating paradise. There is good freshwater fishing about 12 km away.

Flowers and Normandy Architecture:-   In this area, ( you'll see flowers everywhere in dazzling colours, cascading in streets, squares and gardens wherever you go. No wonder this region is often called the Côte Fleurie. And so much of the architecture in the area, in its Normandy style, is stunning.
