An Idyllic Country Retreat just 20 Minutes from the River Loire with Heated Pool.

A series of three gîtes and a huge barn set around a big courtyard as part of a small hamlet.

Two of the cottages have already been beautifully and sympathetically restored. All the buildings are of the local Loire stone 'tuffeau'.

La Touche stands on a slight rise set in tranquil surroundings of fields and woods with views south-westward towards Courleon, with its church spire set amidst graceful poplar trees. 

The pool is situated in a quiet separate courtyard.  (There is no picture as it is currently being installed.)

All gîtes are furnished comfortably and tastefully with antique and period pieces. Double bedrooms are easily capable of becoming twin bedrooms. Each Gîte has its own secluded sitting area.

Gite 1

Ground Floor:-  Salon with large fireplace; kitchen/diner, twin bedroom.

First Floor::-  Double/twin bedroom;, twin bedroom,  bathroom, separate WC.

Gite 2

Ground Floor:-  Salon/diner with Large fireplace, kitchen, bathroom/WC.

First Floor:-  Double/twin bedroom, twin bedroom, WC.

Bed Linen can be provided at an extra charge.

There is a grand built-in barbecue (grand because it is an original fireplace!) and the large grassed and gravelled courtyard is an ideal place for games. There is a separate utility room with washing machine as well as a games/music room in the barn with table tennis, darts and two pianos.

Local Amenities

The nearby village of Gizeux with its pretty Chateau also has local shops and bars. A little further away at Vernoil le Fourrier, there is a very good supermarket, but you will probably want to do most of your shopping at the various lively local traditional markets particularly in Bourgueil on Tuesday mornings, or Saumur on Saturday mornings.

There is a host of very good restaurants within 5 to 20 minutes with prices ranging from £7.00 to £20 for 4 courses with wine.

Places to visit

One of the most famous aspects of the Loire is its chateaux. Many are within easy reach of La Touche particularly at Saumur, Tours, Villandry, Amboise, Chenenceaux (which spans the river) and Azey le Rideau.

But perhaps you are more interested in Loire wines. La Touche is only a short drive to four different appellations: Bourgueil; St Nicolas de Bourgueil; Saumur; Saumur Champigny, with their peppery reds and easy drinking whites. A slightly longer drive will take you to Vouvray and Montlouis with their delicious lemony whites, or to Layon with its superb sweet wines rivaling anything in the south.

You’ll want to explore the vineyards yourself but we’ll leave you a list of what we think are some of the best!

Activities

There are swimming lakes with tennis and other activities within 20 minutes drive of La Touche and about 20 minutes to the south is the Loire itself, where again there are swimming and canoeing possibilities.

Golf is not only well provided for in the area you can play without membership and the courses are very good.

Who Manages La Touche?

La Touche is owned by Penny Freeman and Peter Hudson.  Penny is a partner in a London based firm of architects specializing in, restoration and conservation.  Peter is a counsellor and trainer and directs the School Counselling trust.

Both have been actively involved in developing La Touche and have aimed to retain the delightful original atmosphere of the place which is at least 300 years old.

La Touche is managed locally by Carol and Richard Mansey who live in France permanently and are amongst our nearest neighbours.  Carol will welcome you and make sure your gîte is in tip top condition when you arrive.  We hope Richard will have to do nothing, but if he does you will be pleased to know that he is a builder!
