We are an English owned business, and so can provide a blend of both English and French culinary traditions, advice on where to visit and language tips. We also have a full drinks licence.

La Hérissonnierè (The Hedgehog House) is a carefully restored traditional Anjou farmhouse set in the Loire Valley, between Angers and Tours and only 5 minutes drive from the Loire itself.

At Hedgehog House there is something for everyone, who want a base to explore the many attractions that the Loire Valley has to boast.

      

First floor gite- sleeps 8 people + Cot

The beamed accommodation is on the first floor of the farmhouse, with a further cosy room in the annexe on the ground floor. There is private parking with a sunny enclosed garden with garden furniture and barbeque. All modern conveniences are included, as well as central heating for those visiting in the colder months

Family en suite room sleeping four, plus a cot if required.

Around the area

Just 15 minutes from the popular centre of Saumur with its inspiring Chateau dominating its cobbled streets, medieval buildings and modern shops. We are also just a few minutes drive from the French market town of Longué.

The Loire Valley

This is a beautiful and amazing place to explore. Within one hours drive there are literally dozens of Château's many of which feature 'son et lumiere' many vineyards producing the wines of Anjou and Touraine, including Muscadet, Saumur Champigny, Bourgueil and Chinon. There are free wine tastings at almost all of the vineyards.

Sample the numerous cafes and auberges, which all serve the many regional dishes, or stay home at Hedgehog House and enjoy one of our delicious home cooked evening meals.

Course fishing:-  is extremely popular in the nearby rivers, including the Loire itself. The river Authion, a tributary of the Loire, is a 15 minute walk from the house, and is a popular local fishing spot. Most fished for are pike, carp, bream and sandre. The local angling shop at Longué can provide all necessary equipment, bait and advice.
