Location and Activities

La Paquenais is situated 5 minutes from the Port of Dinan which lies on the banks of the Rance river estuary.  From here you can enjoy some beautiful walks or take a boat trip and see the pretty villages along its banks.  The Port of Dinan also offers the opportunity to take advantage of French ‘café life’ or find a good restaurant.

Dinan itself can be reached by a short (albeit steep!) walk from Dinan Port, or by car; again, only 5 minutes from the gite.   Dinan is a magnificent walled mediaeval town, bustling with life.  It has an excellent weekly market (Thursday) and boasts a host of interesting shops and cafés as well as a number of superb restaurants and creperies.

The town itself is full of character, having retained its cobbled streets, half timbered houses and many churches and cloisters of interest to visit.

Within a half hour drive of the gite, you can visit a host of other interesting places.  On the coast are the beautiful beaches of the ‘Cote d’Emeraude’ which offers superb sandy beaches, rocky coves and rugged moor land, as well as a number of picturesque fishing ports such as Cancale, Erquy and Binic.   The port of St. Malo, which originates from the Napoleonic period, is renowned for its marina and beautiful architecture and also has a renowned aquarium.  Inland you can visit the towns of Combourg (with its castle and lake), Dol, Dol de Bretagne and the Chateau de la Hunedaye; but to mention a few!  A little further away up the coast is Mont St Michel to the east, and St Brieuc with its fortified cathedral, to the west.

Whatever your interests and whatever the age-range of your party/family, there is something of interest for everyone.  If you prefer to leave the car you can take a number of walks directly from the gite into the fields, woods or on to Port Dinan.  Alternatively you can simply admire the views from the garden and the railway bridge designed by Eiffel; of the ‘Tower’ fame.  (Local trains pass, but not overnight).

The nearest shops are only 500meters away but as you cannot see or hear them from the gite, it feels as if you are in the middle of the countryside.

Arrival

La Paquenis can be easily reached from the ports of St. Malo, Cherbourg or Caen and there are flights into the nearby regional airport of Dinard.

Bookings run from Saturday to Saturday and you may arrive at the gite any time between 4 and 8 pm on your chosen date, or earlier by pre-arrangement.
