Le Manoir de Hérouville is located mid-way between Bayeux and St Lo, easily accessible from the Channel ports of Ouistreham and Cherbourg and Caen Carpiquet airport.
Built during the reign of Louis XV, around 1740, the main house and Pigeonnier have been extensively refurbished and modernised to a high standard, whilst retaining the original features and character of a pre-Revolution Manoir.
The house is in open farmland in the lee of the Cérisy National Forest, which offers possibilities for walking, riding and cycling. The grounds and gardens extend to seventeen acres and include a stocked lake for fishing.
Graham and Lesley Hollands have spent much of their lives in Europe and Africa with the British Army. Graham is a keen golfer and student of Normandy's military history. Lesley is devoted to her garden, and is an accomplished cook. Between them, they speak French, German and English.
The Manoir de Herouville
The Manoir de Hérouville is a family home. There are four bedrooms
available for letting in the main house. All are spacious, well decorated and
traditionally furnished with twin or double beds. Each has en-suite facilities
and extensive views over the surrounding countryside. The ground floor includes
two sitting rooms, a dining room and breakfast room.
The Pigeonnier
The Pigeonnier, which denotes the importance of the
Manoir, is both unusual and charming. It is arranged on three floors - the top
floor as a double bedroom, the middle floor as a sitting room with a shower
room, and the ground floor as a kitchen/dining area. Each floor is linked by a
steep staircase and thus the Pigeonnier is only suitable for the able-bodied and
independent.
Extensive gardens and grounds.
Ideally located for D-Day Beaches and Norman history.
Battlefield tours.
Positioned astride the June 1944 boundary between 1st US Army and 2nd British Army, close to the airborne landings, invasion beaches, and major sites of the Battle of Normandy, Le Manoir de Hérouville is ideally located for tours of the Normandy battles. Graham Hollands, a retired British Army Major General, your host at Le Manoir de Hérouville, is happy to lead tours on request. These can be tailored to accommodate the needs or interests of individuals or groups.
