PLACES OF INTEREST AND THINGS TO DO IN  BENALMADENA

Five minutes walk up the road from Acuario is the village part of Arroyo.  Here you will find many bars and cafes, Spanish, English and Chinese restaurants.  There is a Spanish square with an adventure playground for children which is floodlit at night and totally safe.   Across the main road from the square is one of the numerous Chinese Restaurants, and in these you can get a three course set meal for about £3 per head. (Also free liqueurs at the end of your meal).

A short walk along this same road will take you to Arroyo de la Miel Railway Station.  From here you can go by train to Torremolinos, and Malaga in one direction and in the opposite direction stops along the way at various resorts and at the end of the line is Fuengirola. The Aquapark in Torremolinos is a great day out for all the family. There is a market at Fuengirola every Tuesday.  The same market is on Friday mornings behind the Railway Station at Arroyo.  Also along from Arroyo Station an absolute must is Tivoli World.  This is like a small  Disney World, with numerous fairground rides, colourful Flamenco shows staged every hour, other shows and a variety of bars and restaurants offering very good value food and drink.  From Tivoli World you can take a ride on a cable car which takes you high up into the mountains, and a donkey ride back again.

A walk down the road towards the beach from Tivoli World will take you to a very large and beautiful public park  (Pamplona Park).  The park is like a mini zoo/Kew Gardens,  with lots of different animals to see, some running wild (rabbits, peacocks and cockrels), mountain deer, etc.  There are swans etc. on a large lake in the grounds, and some beautiful landscaped gardens.  Close to the park, a leisure complex is currently nearing completion, and this includes an ice skating rink (with real ice!).

From the apartment, a 10 minute walk down the road will take you to the beaches and Marina.  On the way down are many bars and restaurants.  (Angeliques do a lovely Sunday roast!!)  The Bonanza bar and Elephante Bar is a short walk from there, where there are very good Cabarats with dancing, on most nights.

Bunnies Nightclub is also worth a visit for adults who would like to see the "Danny la Rue" of Arroyo!  The show is for broad-minded people, who enjoy adult humour, and is  very lavish and  entertaining.   5 euros to get in, and drinks can be expensive. Tables have to be booked in advance as it is usually very busy.

Near the Marina there is a new Sea World Centre housing many exotic fish etc.  There are boat trips available from the Marina ranging from fishing trips to sightseeing and dolphin spotting trips, and along from here is the longest promenade in Europe, on which you can walk to Torremolinos in about an hour.  Along this promenade are some beautiful beaches and shops and restaurants.

You can sample the local sardines just after being caught, cooked outside at many of these restaurants. There is wind surfing, water skiing, pedalos with slides into the sea, and swan shapes etc.,  and various other water sports.

A short bus ride (with a bus stop just outside Acuario)  is the picturesque mountain village of Mijas.  There are many interesting shops and colourful donkeys and carts for hire at Mijas.  Also a bullring for the brave-hearted!  A new water-park has also just been built at Mijas Costa.

In the village of Arroyo, coach trips can be arranged to visit places such as Marbella, Gibraltar, Seville and the Rhonda Valley.  Also the ski resort of Sierra Nevada mountain range, (mountains of which can be seen from the balcony of apartment, often snow covered).

For people who enjoy a game of bingo and quizzes, “the Blazing Saddles” just opposite Acuario provides bingo every evening at a reasonable cost.
