About the area

Aldbrough village is surrounded by open fields, and there are many lovely walks in and around the area.  Our coastline boasts over 40  miles of sandy beaches and although sometimes it may be difficult to get on to the beach at Aldbrough, nearby Mappleton  beach is easily accessible, and perfect for an early morning walk.

In addition to our own beaches, and the Herons around the fishing lakes, 7 miles north of Aldbrough is Hornsea Mere, the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire and R.S.P.B Nature reserve.  North of Aldbrough, approximately 25  miles is Flamborough Head, providing a haven  for thousands of seabirds and trips to the Puffin colonies at the respective times of year.  The adventurous will also want to discover the unique Spurn Point, east of Aldbrough.

Our local beaches are also ideal  for fishing, in addition to the sea there are fishing lakes situated in the village and fishing can be arranged with the owners.  Hornsea Mere offers fishing and boating.

Burton Constable Hall stands just outside of Aldbrough, it is an outstanding Elizabethan country house, currently undergoing much renovation, the gardens are lovely.  Burton Constable has a touring caravan park within the grounds.  Burton Agnes and Sledmere Halls are both within driving distance, at Georgian Sledmere there are over 2,000 acres of parklands and gardens landscaped by Capability Brown.

Throughout the year there are various events being organized within the village.

Nearby, Hornsea has it’s own award winning Museum of Rural life, and Hull, proud of it’s Fishing Heritage and  Town Docks Museums, is just 12 miles north.  The historic town of Beverley with it’s famous Gothic Minster is just 14 miles.
