Places to visit

Set on the edge of the beautiful Northumberland National Park, Common House Farm is the perfect centre for enjoying touring and walking holidays amongst the breathtaking scenery of the rolling border hills - the heart of Roman Wall country.

Northumberland has been described as England's last wilderness having the lowest population density of any county in England, the rugged countryside being a paradise for outdoor pursuits

We are well placed for visiting the best preserved sections of Hadrian's wall, built nearly 2000 years ago to define the Northern frontier of Rome's mighty Empire. Today, it is a World Heritage Site and the Roman fortress at Housesteads, the fort of Vindolanda and the fort and museum at Chesters are all within a few miles.

Activities

You can explore the ancient market town of Hexham with its magnificent 12th Century Abbey, Kielder Water and Forest offering watersports, cycling and walking trails, and England's most recently declared area of outstanding natural beauty, The North Pennines, with its lead mining heritage. There is horse-riding, fishing, and several quality 18 hole golf courses, such as Haltwhistle, Slaley Hall and Matfen Hall, all within half an hour's drive.
