In Durham & near North Yorkshire The historic  Boot & Shoe Cottage lies on the southern bank of the River Tees at an ancient river crossing from Yorkshire into Durham.

The cottage, once a cobblers and pub, has now been restored to a high standard with original wall cupboards, beams and fireplaces retained.

Boot and Shoe Cottage offers everything for an ideal holiday - a warm welcome with a roaring log fire and home baking, books, videos and games for adults and children alike, comfy sofas, feather & down bedding (synthetic available for allergy sufferers); a true home-from-home.
Outside, the river with kingfishers, duck, geese and trout off the back garden and fields with horses, sheep and rabbits to the front. And the nearest pub is only a 10 minute walk.

The cottage provides the perfect location for a relaxing holiday in peaceful and scenic surroundings, from strolling through Wycliffe to exploring Barnard Castle, experiencing Teesdale's High Force, visiting Raby Castle in, fishing in the River Tees, walking the North Yorkshire Dales or driving out to Newcastle or York, you will be ideally situated for a wonderful holiday in the countryside.

Bedrooms

Upstairs are two bedrooms - a large double bedroom and an attic-style bedroom with a single bed and a 2' 6" bed. The two bedrooms share a bathroom with bath and WC

An adjoining twin bedroom and en-suite bathroom are available for extra guests, if required.

Relax in the atmospheric sitting room, with its open fire and rustic furnishings, whilst watching TV & video or admiring the rolling countryside view.

A utility room and extra WC are also on the ground floor.

The kitchen/dining room has a wood burning stove and French windows opening on to a patio garden overlooking the river.

The back garden has a barbecue area with garden furniture and steps down to the riverbank.

Electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer and freezer . The cottage is equipped with TV and video, Payphone , and Electric storage heaters .

A cot and high chair are available on request.

All linen, towels, electricity and fuel (coal and logs) are included in the rental price.

There is parking for 2 cars adjacent to the cottage.

Boot and Shoe is a non-smoking cottage.

In addition to the frozen meal service, we offer fresh fruit and vegetables from our own pesticide-free garden and Tesco on-line will deliver to the cottage.

Local Amenities

There are several pubs nearby, the closest being a 10 minute walk. Barnard Castle has a wide selection of local shops, including several specialising in antiques, a weekly market, a farmers' market, banks and post office.

Local Attractions

Boot and Shoe Cottage is 400 yds west of Wycliffe Village.

Set in the heart of Teesdale, one of England's most beautiful and unspoilt areas, Wycliffe is about 6 miles east of the historic market town of Barnard Castle and makes an ideal base for exploring the surrounding country.

Teesdale has many small villages and is also home to the John and Josephine Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle, High Force - England's highest waterfall and the mediaeval stronghold of Raby Castle with it's deer park.

Local Attractions

The area offers opportunities for many outdoor activities, including walking with the Teesdale Way passing close by, golfing, bird watching and riding. Rods on the River Tees can be rented, either by the day or weekly, to take advantage of the excellent trout fishing available with Boot and Shoe Cottage.

Further Afield

The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the North Yorkshire Dales and the cathedral city of Durham are all within easy driving distance, while Newcastle, York the Lake District are approx 1 hour away.
