Accommodation
The Barns
These lovely traditional barns were carefully converted in 2000, after we ceased milking cows and rearing calves in them. Great care was taken to ensure that they still look and feel like barns, with gentle colour washed walls, trailing stencils, with the honey coloured beams, old wooden floors and wobbly roofline left intact.
All the barns share use of Games room and Laundry Room / Lock-up Store Room.
Prices from £170 - £770
Short Breaks available out of main season.
The Stables Imaginative accommodation for 6-7 persons
These old stables were formerly used to house calves and nursing mums who were in need of some space! Visually stunning, as you walk through the vast door, the central space is full height from floor to raftered ceiling. Two rustic, open plan staircases lead to mezzanine floors either side - one to a sitting room under the eaves and the other to a twin bedded room, with the beds tucked under the roof trusses. Downstairs there is the main bedroom with KS bed and en-suite, a further twin-bedded room and family bathroom. The fully fitted kitchen, large dining area and a further snug sitting area completes the downstairs space. Antique pine or hand decorated furniture, comfortable sofas and beds, complement the unusual hand finished walls to give a country feel to this cosy barn.
The Mill House Spacious reversed accommodation for 6-7 persons
Again, this barn has unusual qualities and very spacious accommodation. A slated hallway leads to three bedrooms downstairs - the main bedroom with KS bed and ensuite, a twin bedded room, a further room with full size bunk beds plus a large family bathroom. Upstairs, the large, comfortable sitting room overlooks the planted courtyard garden, and leads to a spacious fully fitted kitchen/dining room, with antique cupboards and a large farmhouse table ideal for family gatherings. Hand decorated furniture and walls complete the rustic charm of this lovely barn.
For couples requiring an out of season break, The Mill House can also be divided to provide a double ensuite bedroom (shower, basin and WC), with full access to the living accommodation as described above.
The Grain Store -
Cosy barn for 4 persons
This popular barn has a cosy feel, with rich colour-washed walls upstairs, where the living area is carefully designed to accommodate the open-plan sitting room, kitchen and dining area without losing the sense of space. A rich oak kitchen blends with the old pine furniture and dark wooden floor, and with views from the kitchen window, this is a charming barn in which to unwind. A slated entrance hall, double bedroom with en-suite, a twin-bedded room and family bathroom downstairs completes this snug barn.
The Tallet -
A single storey former haybarn for 2-4 persons
This former first floor hayloft is attached to the main farmhouse and has a light and airy feel and lovely views from most windows over our land to the sea. Approached via five exterior steps, it has a hallway, with a large sitting room, with TV and VCR, an archway to the newly built and hand decorated kitchen, with cooker, fridge and microwave etc. There is a comfortable sprung double sofa bed in the sitting room, and a further bedroom with single beds. The bathroom has a WC and an electric shower over the bath. There is plenty of storage space and private parking outside for two cars. There is a garden with furniture to the rear and side, and of course, use of the games room and laundry facilities.
Working Farm
We always have cattle or sheep on our land or housed at the farm in winter, and we also keep a family of horses - Misty aged 27 years, her daughter Sorrel aged 13, and her daughter Lexi, who was born in 2002. With a friend, Missy, to keep them company, their antics are always a joy to watch, To complete the livestock, there are two friendly retrievers and two very fat cats, who have a big part to play in the entertainment of children at West Woolley.
Around the area
There are some wonderful walks to be enjoyed from the farm, through our own woodland and down the Marsland Valley to the sea at Marsland Mouth and thence to Welcombe Mouth, where, on your way, you may see deer, badgers, woodpeckers, buzzards and many other species of birds and animals. The parish of Morwenstow is crossed with designated footpaths, from secret woodland walks to dramatic cliff top hikes - something to suit everyone.
Family Activities
From Gooseham Riding Stables, you can enjoy a safe accompanied ride along empty lanes and bridle paths - you might just meet one or two cars...! There are five wonderful beaches, some sandy, some rocky, within six miles of the farm, and if you don’t want company, and don’t mind a fifteen minute walk from your car, you can spend the day more or less alone on two of them, except for one or two like-minded people! For families, there are four excellent theme parks within a few miles and Bude’s lively surfing centre just eight miles to the south. With fabulous sheltered sandy beaches conjuring up childhood memories of sun, sea and sand - there is a good reason why it is named Budehaven!
To the north, is Clovelly - a picturesque village tumbling down the hillside to the sea, and beyond is Bideford and then Barnstaple - the gateway to Exmoor. The fantastic Eden Project is just over an hour’s easy drive away.
About Morwenstow
Morwenstow is the most northerly parish in Cornwall, and is, in fact, a collection of small hamlets - one of which is Woolley. It is just eight miles north of sunny Bude, and is renowned for its wild cliffs, secret valleys and the abundance of wildlife, and for the ancient church associated with the Rev. R.S. Hawker, the celebrated 19th century eccentric writer and poet. There is very little traffic even in the high season and the parish is fronted by the most wonderful cliffs on the North Coast, along which the Coastal Path provides truly spectacular scenery.
