The Smiddy
The Cottages nestle at the bottom of the gardens, giving
privacy to themselves and the main house. They are bright and airy, offering a
perfect base for the smaller group to enjoy the many sights of the local area
Smiddy is an old Scottish word for a blacksmith's workshop, which is exactly what this was in a previous life. Of course, as you can see from the picture, things are a little more comfortable than they would have been for the poor blacksmith. The furniture and decorations have been kept simple and fresh.
The open plan is bright and inviting, creating the sort of informality associated with much larger buildings. The kitchen is new and well equipped. Most common utensils are provided. The whole house is centrally heated, and there is hot water available all day.
The bedroom in the Smiddy is galleried, and you are able to look over the main living area giving a very "chalet" feel to your space. A stay in the Smiddy will be a comfortable and rewarding one, with views to the hills and woodland. You are in a building with history in it, set in and area that saw a large part of Scotland's history unfold around it.
The Stables
The Cottages nestle at the bottom of the gardens, giving privacy to themselves and the main house. They have newly fitted kitchens, and are recently decorated. They are bright and airy, offering a perfect base for the smaller group to enjoy the many sights of the local area
The Stables were part of the old Smiddy in times
when one of the main jobs of the Smith would be to keep the local horses with
shoes on their feet. Things have changed quite a bit, and The Stables are now a
very comfortable one bedroomed cottage. sophisticated and spacious...a perfect
location for exploring the Scottish countryside whatever the season. The
furniture and decorations have been kept simple and fresh.
