The Bothy

'The Bothy' apartment offers a warm and comfortable rural retreat for your vacation. It is reached by a staircase, leading to an elevated decked area looking south over The Endrick Valley to the Campsie Hills and Dumgoyne where you can find Scotland's most beautiful distillery on your doorstep. Glengoyne "the world's best Highland Malt Whiskey".

The seating / dining area is open plan to the kitchen. There is a bath and shower room with wash basin and also a separate toilet and wash basin. The Bothy occupies a wonderful setting and is surrounded by some of the most outstanding countryside in Scotland.

The Bothy apartment is fully equipped with all modern appliances including electric cooker, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, wash/dryer, iron and ironing board, microwave, hairdryer, shaver points, colour television, video recorder, DVD player, Hifi, your own private safe, bed linen, towels and bath robes will be supplied. Situated on the south facing side of the Endrick Valley with views to The Campsie Hills and with many other natural treasures as the Trossachs (the highlands in miniature), Loch Lomond, Loch Katrine and Scotland's only lake, Menteith.

Whilst staying in The Bothy our guests now have access to our local private Leisure Club. Gymnasium facilities, sauna, jacuzzi, squash courts, table tennis and leisure pool for swimmers are available without charge. The services of a beautician are also available for a small fee.

"The Stables" - 2 Bedrooms

During the 18th century, the time of Rob Roy McGregor the local outlaw, this was a hunting lodge on the Duke of Montrose estate. You can learn more about Rob Roy at a centre in Callander. Ponies belonging to Madeleine and Malcolm Paterson jnr were stabled here in the 1970's and represented Scotland in the Prince Philip Pony Club games and BSJA International junior jumping teams. This is where the name 'The Stables' is derived.

The main bedroom:- offers a super king sized bed and benefits from views of open countryside.

The second bedroom:- benefits from a super king zip link bed that can be separated to make this a twin room. Please state whether you require this room as a double or twin at time of booking.

A bathroom:- with a shower over the bath is shared between the two rooms.

Sitting room:- patio doors that open out onto a patio and garden.

Kitchen:- Light and airy kitchen and dining area.

Downstairs toilet.

Well insulated, including double glazed windows, built to conform to modern standards.

"Apple House" - 3 bedrooms 

The Apple House used to contain a hand pump where water for the farm could be extracted from the water track. Originating in Loch Katrine, the water track was the principal supply for Glasgow. More recently, this building was where young calves were born and reared.

Bedroom 1:-  has a super king sized bed with en-suite shower room

The second bedroom:- also has a super king sized bed with adjoining private bathroom

A twin room:- completes the accommodation

About the area

Loaninghead is surrounded by stunning countryside, wildlife and ancient history and is in an excellent position for country activities such as hill climbing, canoeing, fishing, cycling, cruising on the lochs or watching wildlife. While Loaninghead enjoys idyllic countryside views, the village of Drymen is only a short drive for provisions, relax in one of the restaurants or spend some time on its golf courses.

Places to visit

There is no better way to enjoy the wonders of Loch Lomond than to take to the water on a small boat like the local post man out of Balmaha on his round of the beautiful islands. There is plenty of space for sailing, water skiing and canoeing.

Blair Drummon Safari and Adventure Park brings you more for less than you might expect. Wild animal reserve, pets farm, giant astraglide, adventure playground where you can dig for treasure, picnic and barbecue area, bird of prey centre. There is also an amusement arcade, face painting and watering hole

Loch Katrine Loch Katrine is the perfect place to visit and view all aspects of the beautiful scenery and splendour of Scotland's first national Park, from either on the water or from the shore. Here you can discover more about the nature and fascinating history of the surrounding area. The steamship Sir Walter Scott has been sailing on these water for over a century allowing today's visitor the opportunity to experience a bygone age which inspired the poet Sir Walter Scott to write 'The Lady of the Lake'.

Visitors to Stirling should make a point of visiting the Wallace Monument, depicted in the recent film Braveheart. An impressive tower recalling Scotland's greatest freedom fighter, Sir William Wallace.

Glasgow is within easy reach and a major attraction for visitors is the Burrell Collection. The gallery is within Pollok Country Park and while you are there Pollok House is also well worth a visit. Motorists entering the city will find it well sign posted. Glasgow is rich in museums and galleries, parks including Strathclyde and Mugdock country park plus other places of interest.
