Places to visit around the area

The Caledonian Canal:- Built in the early 19th Century by the famous Scottish engineer Thomas Telford. The canal has no less than 29 locks along its 60 miles, and the most spectacular of these, Neptune's Staircase, is within walking distance of Loch Leven House.

West Highland Railway & Road to the Isles:- The railway line runs 140 miles from Craigendoran via Fort William to the fishing port of Mallaig. It crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct - made famous in the Harry Potter films, and during the summer months, you can ride the "Jacobite" Steam Train. The road from Fort William to Mallaig is known as the Road to the Isles, and both journeys pass by some beautiful lochs and mountains.

Ben Nevis:-  The highest mountain in the UK. Standing at an impressive 1344 metres (over 4400 feet), Ben Nevis towers over Fort William. If you're fit, then why not follow the 16km mountain path as it rises 1300m, and take in the spectacular views of the Nevis Range and the scenery below! Or, if you like music, why not try one of the "ultimate altitude gigs" in the Snowgoose Restaurant

Loch Ness and Inverness:- Travelling North on the A82 Fort William will take you along the Great Glen and the world famous Loch Ness, where you can try and capture some images of the elusive monster "Nessie". Also along this road, near Drumnadrochit, on the banks of Loch Ness is Urquhart Castle, serving 500 years as a medieval fortress.

How to get here

Travelling north from Fort William, follow the A82 until you reach the sign for the A830 towards Mallaig. Turn left at the traffic lights (immediately before the BP Petrol Station) and follow this road for approximately 1½ miles. Turn right when you reach the signs for Banavie, then take a sharp left, then left again. Continue until you reach the end of the road. Loch Leven House is the last house on the right. There is a cattle grid at the entrance to the drive.
